RAA Basketball Season

The RAA Basketball League is open to all area youth in grades 1 through 6. It is a recreational league with the objective to give kids a basic understanding of the game of basketball. It is a great introduction to the game with an emphasis on fundamentals and fun.

Basketball Information

1-2 Grade

In-house Coed

Often a child's first introduction to the game this age group play coed. A lot of time is focused on the fundamentals and basic rules. Once the kids are ready they are broken into smaller teams and play 4v4 full court scrimmages (Half of the full court).

3-4 Grade

In-house Boys League & Girls League

Introduction to a more traditional 5v5 full court basketball. Individual teams are created at the beginning of the season and coached on offensive & defensive strategies. Games are refereed with a game clock and score keeping.

5-6 Grade

In-house Boys League & Girls League

This league is meant to prepare the players to move on to middle school ready to play at that level. Continuation of improving skills and more advanced concepts are introduced i.e. ball handling rules, over and back, 5 second inbounds, the 10 second rule, on and one free throws, and full-court press (last period only).

  • Ball Handling: More Advanced (Spin, Behind-the-Back, Double Moves)
  • Passing: Under Pressure
  • Screens: Give and Go
  • Footwork: Jab Steps, Pivots, Pass & Shot Fakes

  • Post Moves: More Advanced
  • Spacing: Higher Level Concepts
  • Offense: Reading the Defense and Moving
  • Defense: Introduce Rotations, Switches and Situations

5th Grade Travel

Boys Team & Girls Team (numbers willing)

Tryouts are held at the beginning of the season for all interested players. Coaches will review their ability and skill level in order to assemble a team for the purpose of playing and representing Riverview in area tournaments at a more competitive level than regular season play.

All travel players must also play in the RAA in-house league as well.

6th Grade Travel
